Elevated psychological
stress could compromise the human capacity to fight against COVID-19.
Therefore, effective interventions including timely mental health care to
improve psychological wellbeing are urgently needed.

Accumulated studies demonstrated that
meditation, could not only effectively reduce negative emotions (such as
stress, anxiety, depression) by regulating the body’s neuro-endocrine-immune
network and through other mechanisms, but also serve as an adjunct approach to
rehabilitation and treatment for a wide range of diseases and disorders, both
physical and mental.

Modern Meditation
is a practice developed for relaxation and stress reduction. Rooted in the
theories of traditional Chinese medicine, this meditation centers on holism of
human beings and the universe, the oneness of body and mind, meridians and
collaterals, five elements including Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water, and
doctrine of viscera state including heart, liver, kidney, spleen, and
especially around this time, the lungs. It
also integrates Western psychology, Western medicine such as
neuroscience, endocrinology and immunology.
Meanwhile, it combines the essence of music therapy, visualization and
mindfulness meditation.

In order to help people around the
world recover more rapidly from the the international pandemic, our team
created the English album “Modern Meditation To Cope With the COVID-19 Pandemic”.
This album is suitable for people who are living under high stress, especially
during the COVID-19 pandemic, including patients, healthcare workers,
government employees, educators, business owners, students and those in
quarantine. Through Modern Meditation, you can relax your body and mind, reduce
stress and fatigue, balance meridians and collaterals, and strengthen major
organs effectively. We have also found that it can be beneficial for those with
psychological and physical symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, headache and
insomnia.

The album “Modern Meditation To Cope
With the COVID-19 Pandemic” was developed by a multidisciplinary team.
Jianguang Xu, the President of Shanghai Medical Association, the President of
Shanghai Medical Doctor Association and the President of Shanghai University of
Traditional Chinese Medicine, served as the Chief Advisor. Mo Xue, China’s National First-class Writer, Vice
President of Gansu Writers’ Association, served as humanistic consultant. Lijun
Jia, the winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars
and Distinguished Professor of Yangtze River scholars, served as the producer.

For coping with COVID-19, this
multidisciplinary team previously developed three meditation albums in Chinese
for patients, healthcare workers and the public, respectively. After being well
received for nearly 2 months, these three albums have gotten more than 400,000
hits on WeChat, a popular Chinese social medium. Importantly, these previous
meditation albums have been highly regarded by patients, healthcare workers and
the public.

Production Team:

Chief
Advisor: Jianguang Xu, Shanghai University of
Traditional Chinese Medicine

Humanities consultant:
Mo Xue, Gansu Provincial Writers’ Association

Producer:
Lijun Jia, Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional
Chinese Medicine

Content
experts: Lijun Jia, Bangjiang Fang, Xiaobing Wang,
Xi Yang, Xihui Chen, (Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of
Traditional Chinese Medicine); Yanmei Zhang,(Huadong Hospital Affiliated to
Fudan University); Huiqi Tong, (Stanford University)

Music
design and creation: Hao Liu, Shanghai
Conservatory of Music

Music
recording: Huixin Xue, Shanghai Conservatory of
Music

Erhu
player: Xiaohui Ma, Shanghai Chinese Orchestra

Guqin
player: Xiaozi Lu, Shanghai Conservatory of Music

Music
directors:Lei Jiang (East China Normal University);
Xiaohui Ma (Shanghai Chinese Orchestra); Hao Liu (Shanghai Conservatory of
Music)

Dubber:
Jiankun Bao, Kunming Oriental-Literature
College For the Elderly

Acknowledgment:
Organization Department of Shanghai Xuhui
District Committee

Note:
The copyright of this album belongs to Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai
University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
